On this 9 day tour through Sweden, we give you a taste of all the wonderful things Sweden has to offer: beautiful cities, breathtaking nature and delicious vegan food. We start our tour in Gothenburg, from which we drive through the lush forests of middle Sweden to Karlstad and Mora, the cradle of Swedish culture, to arrive in Sweden's capital: Stockholm.
Our vegan travel to Sweden starts on the morning of the first day. Our hotel is situated in the city center, in walking distance of all the sights Gothenburg has to offer. If you have not spent the night in our group hotel, you are expected to arrive there no later than 09.00 am for an introduction and to meet your fellow travelers.
It is up to you when you want to arrive in Sweden. If you want to arrive a few days before the tour starts, we will gladly help you to arrange a hotel room for you.
City Walk
After breakfast you will meet your fellow travelers and your tour leader in the hotel for a brief introduction. From there, we will go on a city walk through Gothenburg. Gothenburg has a rich history. The city is full of beautiful buildings and monuments, serene parks and enjoyable spots on the waterfront. We will visit the vibrant streets of Haga, with its charming shops and cafés, where we will enjoy lunch at a Vegan café. For a beautiful view over the city, you can climb Skansen Kronan. At the end of the walk, you can take a relaxing ferry in the harbor and see the Gothenburg sights from the water. Enjoy a vegan meal in one of the many vegan restaurants Gothenburg has to offer. Gothenburg is truly a vegan paradise!
Gothenburg Isles
On day 2 we will explore one of the many islands off the coast of Gothenburg. A relaxing tram and boat ride away, you will find yourself on a typical Swedish island. Here, you can relax on one of the tiny beaches and explore the forests and boulders that make up the island. Drink a cup of coffee in one of the small cafés and head back to the boat. You can chose to stay a little longer, or go back to Göteborg for a lunch in the city. The rest of the afternoon, you have all to yourself. Your tour leader can offer you many fun and interesting suggestions.
Today, we will take our own mini-bus up along the coast of West Sweden. We will stop in Marstrand and take the ferry to the island, where we you can walk around the island, visit a real Swedish castle, or stroll along the boulevard shops. We lunch in Kungälv where we have found some excellent vegan options for you. Back on the road, we head inland and we will stop for several fun sights along the way.
We arrive in Karlstad in the afternoon. You have time to relax, walk around the city and eat at one of the many vegan friendly restaurants.
More driving and sightseeing today through the Swedish country side, with some interesting stops along the way. We will visit a beautiful Swedish church and you can find some typical Swedish souvenirs when we stop at a Swedish loppis (second hand shop). The Swedes love loppis and you will too! We visit Sunne and can make a stop in Åmål for those who have seen the Swedish cult classic F*cking Åmål.
In the afternoon, we arrive in Mora, center of Swedish culture, where we set up camp for a few days.
Mora is a lovely, small town on the edge of lake Siljan, Sweden's sixth largest lake (yes, they are very proud of their lakes). Mora is the birth place of the world famous Vasaloppet, a 90 km cross country ski race. In Summer you can walk the trail, or follow it by bicycle.
Today we will have time for some activities. You can choose to kayak on the lake or the many waterways, bike along the lake or some of the Vasaloppet route or walk in the area. If you want to relax, you can also explore the town, visit a museum or enjoy a drink in one of the cafe's near the water.
On day two in Mora, we will explore the cultural highlights of the area. Today lunch is included and we will eat (if the weather permits) near an old Viking site. In the afternoon, we will visit the world famous Dalahäst (Dala horse) factories. This is where the world famous and iconic Swedish horse is made. A tour guide will tell us all about the process. In the afternoon, we return to Mora, where you will have the rest of the day to do whatever you like.
Today we will take our mini-bus to Stockholm. Along the way we will visit a huge disused copper mine, where it is possible to take a tour underground and learn about mining and the famous red paint that adorns many Swedish houses. We arrive in Stockholm in the afternoon, where we will check into our hotel. We have chosen an excellent spot close to many vegan restaurants, shops and within walking distance of the city center.
We start the day with a city walk for those who are interested. On this walk, we take you along many interesting sights of Stockholm. Stockholm is a beautiful city with a lot of history. The city has something for everybody: countless shopping opportunities, so many interesting museums ( a lot of them free!), serene parks, islands and even an amusement park in the middle of the city! Too much to see in one day, but you will get a good idea of the city and will visit many sights.
We start our tour at the fabulous City Hall, walk through Ridderholmen and Gamla Stan for some immersion in history and eat lunch at a fabulous vegan restaurant. In the afternoon, we will take a boat to the Islands and walk along the shore back into the city. We finish our walk with a cup of coffee in the Kungsträdgarden, where there is always something to see. The rest of the day is free to explore. Your tour leader will have many great suggestions for things to see and do. In the evening we will get together for a farewell dinner at a vegan restaurant.
Our last day in Stockholm is also the final day of this vegan tour to Sweden. You can use it to visit those sights you still want to see, to buy some souvenirs, or just relax in a park. Depending on the time of your flight you can make your way to the airport.
*For spending money you should count on an average of € 350,- per person per week. In this amount are included costs for food and drinks, entrance fees, additional excursions and personal tips. Souvenirs are not included in this amount as this very much depends on the person.
**Tipping in Sweden is not common. When you are satisfied with your tour leader, a tip will be very much appreciated.
